Rainbow Cupcakes

Have you ever made rainbow cupcakes?  They just taste happy!  They would also be a perfect rainy day activity to do with kids.

All you do is take your favorite white or yellow cake mix (I do mine from scratch to avoid all those chemicals & preservatives) and divide the batter into bowls.  Then you add your food coloring to each bowl to get your desired color.

When you are adding your colors into your cupcake liners you will want to use a fork and let it drizzle into each cup.  This is so your colors don't mix and they stay in layers.  It's a little time consuming but it's raining outside so you probably have nothing else to do anyways...

Bake like you normally would and top with some fluffy white icing

Make sure you use white liners so you can see all your hard work!

Yummy happiness!

Snazzy Burp Cloths

So I know it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know how to work a sewing machine but they used to scare the you know what out of me.  Some of my friends showed me how to use one and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be!  Setting it up for the first that's a different story.  It took an hour or two and I even watched the instructional DVD that must have been filmed in the 80s.  I've got it under control now though!

I received some of these "custom" burp cloths as baby shower gifts and I really love using them!  I decided to make some more and even make some for a dear friend of mine.

You just start with a regular burp cloth/ old school cloth diaper.

Then you cut some fabric that is a little longer than the width of the cloth.  Remember you have to fold all the sides under a smidge.  You are probably supposed to iron everything but I don't iron...ever.  The End.

Fold all the sides and then pin it onto the cloth exactly where you want it.

Then start sewing away...stitching away?  Who knows...I'm new at this.

Once you have your rectangle of fabric sewn on you are almost done.  Really you could be completely done now if you would like.  I'm adding ribbon to mine though.  You just pin it exactly where you want it and don't forget to cut it longer than what you need it so you can fold the edges under.

Sew away! Watch those of my biggest to running out of all the toilet paper in the house.

All the sewing is now complete.  Just wash it up and then wipe up some spit up. At least you'll be doing it in style!

A Surprise Inside

One would think that once you aren't pregnant anymore the dreaded "pregnancy brain" would flash... it doesn't!!!

When I did the guest bedroom nightstand post the other week I completely forgot to show you the inside of the drawers!  When I bought them they were pretty grungy and I was not quite sure how to clean them properly and be able to keep them clean and eye appealing.  I bought some fabric a while back so I thought I would spruce them up with that!  I just cut the fabric to the same size of the drawer and then used some spray adhesive to make the fabric stay in place.

It took a total of about 20 minutes for the 2 drawers...a great nap time project!

Accent Flowers

I have been wanting some cute little flowers for my nightstand.  Seems like such a simple thing but with a new baby around it takes a bit more effort to get loaded up and to the store and then a bit more effort to actually assemble a project.

I bought this little glass vase at the Dollar Tree for you guessed it...$1.

I didn't want it to be clear so I primed it and then spray painted it with some ORB spray paint.  Then I put some styrofoam down in the base of the vase.  I bought some silk flowers and greenery at Hobby Lobby while they were 50% off (if they aren't 50% when you go, just be patient...they will be next week) and trimmed them down and inserted them into to foam.  I actually cut the greenery apart stem by stem (all of the greenery in the picture was from one piece and I still had left overs).

Small change but it makes me smile when I see them!

I Love Lamp...revisited...

Remember these?  On a random shopping date night the Hubs and I found some cute shades for them!  They were only $6 a piece!  Woot Woot.  We found them at none other than the beloved Ross.

We also bought a fenial for the top at Hobby Lobby.  It was an oil rubbed bronze color so I used my handy dandy Rub N Buff and made it match the lamp.

Closet Furniture

I found this piece on Craigslist and loved the shape of it instantly.  My sweet Hubs drove about 35 minutes with me to go pick it up.  We took the dog too, it was a family affair.  Loved the piece, loved the price, loaded it up!

We bought it to use for extra storage in our closet.  It does make me kind of sad that it will be in there where no one will see it but oh well.  It was this aged funky yellow color when we bought it.  Notice the top is a white laminate material.  I just sanded it a tad (just enough to rough it up), primed it with a roller, and painted it with a roller.  Before doing all of that though I did remove the hardware.  I didn't want to spend extra money on hardware because I kind of liked the way the existing hardware looked.  I just gave it a little makeover with some white spray paint.

For the paint color I had some oops paint left over from our master bath and nightstands.

I was going to remove my hair tools and the hubs' stuff off the top but I thought I would just keep it real!  It's our's not all that glamorous.

Coffee Table

I found this coffee table on my lunch break one day at good ol' Goodwill.  It was only $10!

One edge was busted up pretty good but nothing I couldn't fix.

The first thing I did was heavily apply wood filler to that spot to make it flush with the rest of the side.  Then I used spray primer on the entire piece and then it sat in my garage for a few months.  Whoops.  What can I say? I was very pregnant then.

Fast forward those few months....I spray painted the entire piece with American Accents Heirloom White.

I didn't like the coverage I was getting on the top of the piece though so I rolled 2 coats of white paint on and then once that dried went back again with 2 more coats of the spray paint. Kind of goofy I know but nothing was covering the way I wanted it to.

I actually finished this piece back in January but I never got around to taking a picture of it until today!  Lazy or decide ;)

This is the corner that was all banged up...not banged up anymore.

I might do a dark brown glaze on the sides but for now this is how it's staying.
