More Burp Cloths!

So I've done a little bit more sewing.  I was contacted by a friend whom I gave my first and last round of burp cloths.  There was a lady at her shower who loved the burp cloths I made her and she was going to be attending another shower and wanted to give some as a gift.  Did that make any sense?  It does in my head, moving on...so I figured up a price and headed to my local fabric store.  She told me she wanted 6 of them so I wanted to get some coordinating fabrics to make it look like a set.  Holy Cow.  So many decisions and I of course wanted them to be perfect.  After combing the store for a solid 20 minutes I stumbled upon pre-cut 5 packs of fat quarters.  THE FABRIC COORDINATED!!!  Problem almost solved...I just need to find one more fabric. That's when I came across this super cute owl fabric.

Luckily the fabric I bought matched ribbon I already had at home.  Score.  Here they all are!  I even had fabric left over.  I'm seeing some of these being made for my baby very soon!  Maybe even a bib or 2?  Tutorial to come soon for those!

A Surprise Inside

One would think that once you aren't pregnant anymore the dreaded "pregnancy brain" would leave...news flash... it doesn't!!!

When I did the guest bedroom nightstand post the other week I completely forgot to show you the inside of the drawers!  When I bought them they were pretty grungy and I was not quite sure how to clean them properly and be able to keep them clean and eye appealing.  I bought some fabric a while back so I thought I would spruce them up with that!  I just cut the fabric to the same size of the drawer and then used some spray adhesive to make the fabric stay in place.

It took a total of about 20 minutes for the 2 drawers...a great nap time project!

Coaster Revamp

I had these coasters that I bought years ago at Ross and they just weren't jiving with me anymore.  Lucky for me I also had some leftover fabric, a jar of modge podge, and a foam brush.  Sounds like a recipe for new coasters to me!

I just laid the coaster on top of my fabric and traced it lightly with a pen.  Then I cut it out and applied a layer of modge podge to the coaster, then applied the fabric, then applied more modge podge to the top of the fabric. I just let them dry on the counter and within a few hours we had some "new" coasters!

"M" Art

There was a small strip of wall above the IKEA spice rack bookshelves in the nursery where I wanted to make a little collage of items.  The first thing I knew I wanted was a letter "M" for our sweet baby's name.  I bought this paper mache letter M from Hobby Lobby using my weekly coupon so it didn't cost much more than $1.
Then I primed it and spray painted it with Krylon's Blue Ocean Breeze.  While it was drying I bought some fabric that looked like an atlas and traced the letter on it and then cut it out with fabric scissors.  I then used Modge Podge and applied it to just the front of the letter.  Here's the finished product!

DIY Striped Curtains

So we've seen these all over the blog world and I guess I figured it was my turn to give it a go.  I found these curtains at Tar-jay for about $14!  I was originally planning on using ones from IKEA but the Tar-jay ones ended up being less expensive.

You can order them online hereYou're welcome Target.

When it comes to having perfectly straight lines I always get nervous and call in the Hubs for help.  I also referred to these 2 great tutorials:

Home Depot had their gallon size Martha Stewart paint on sale for $12 so I picked up a gallon along with some "textile medium" that I found at a local craft store.  I wanted to be able to wash these curtains if need be since they would be in a nursery of a boy (aka probably always going to be dirty).

Since I used the same exact curtains as Reckless Glamour it made life super easy since she already did the measurements ( I HATE math).

It was super easy (just time consuming) to tape off the stripes...until I got to the bottom and one side had less of a stripe than the other.  I called in reinforcements (aka Hubs).  I almost had a breakdown until my phone rang and I chatted for a while with a friend and then by the time I was done Hubs had fixed it all!  I just love him!
He said that it wasn't really my error that the curtains were sewn wrong...not sure if this is completely true but it made me feel a little better.

While we were working on these it was pretty darn cold so I didn't want to paint these outside and risk the paint freezing before it had time to dry.  We laid down a bunch of cardboard and laid the panels on top of that.

Then i went to work painting away with a small foam roller.

Here they are in all their orange glory!

Master Bath Curtains

Remember this fabric I bought on clearance at The Depot a while back?  I FINALLY put it to use.

I used it in our master bathroom to make curtains.  These are the first DIY curtains I've ever done.  I completed the project prior to getting my new sewing machine so I took the "no sew" route of using Stitch Witchery.

You can usually find it in your local fabric or craft store.  It's quite inexpensive for how much you get.  All you do is go ahead and cut your fabric and then you use the Stitch Witchery to bond the edges together.  I took an old damp cloth and put it between my fabric and iron and went to town.  It actually took quite a while, but that could have been because I had the TV on :)  You don't do a back and forth motion with the iron, just press it on there until you feel like it has bonded.  Easy, but time consuming.  May the force be with you.

For some reason Kohl's decided to mail us 2 free $10 gift cards so I used them to buy the clip rings to hold up the panels.

The fabric is nice and thick so we can close the curtains if we don't want any light to shine through but we usually leave them hanging the way the are in the below photo.

Only a few more small tweaks and then the master bath will be finished!

Take a Seat

This chair is super similar to the last chair I redid.  Different bones, same fabric.  I just can't get enough of this fabric!  Here is the chair I started out with that I found at a thrift store going out of business...does it get any better than that?  I mean sure, sad they're going out of business but makes for a decent thrifting day for yours truely.

ewwy.

I did some light sanding, priming, and spray painting and that sealed the deal for the chair part.  Next was ripping off all that nasty fabric and putting on the brand new fabric.  I think I like doing that part best because I can be inside and have the tv on...(and my true laziness shines through).

Lampshade

This was my first ever lampshade makeover project.  I found the lamp at the estate sale I went to back in the spring and it has been sitting in my garage ever since.  I bought some fabric from my local fabric store and was ready to get to work.  The shade that came with it sucked.  Don't get me wrong, it's a great lamp shade as far as shading the lamp but when it came time to put the fabric on it, it sucked (no other words to describe it).

I felt like doing this about part way through the project.  I don't know why it stressed me out so much!

I used some spray adhesive and sprayed it on the shade and then I smoothed the fabric over it.  I did it just a section at a time to make sure the adhesive wouldn't dry before I got to it.

While the adhesive was drying I taped off around the bottom of the actual lamp (not the shade) to spray paint the base.  It was originally gold, I painted it black, didn't like that, painted it silver, didn't like that, and then finally went with a champagne color (close to gold but not so bold) which I thought really accented the fabric.  Whew, I'm not picky or indecisive at all (poor hubby)!

I was so glad to have the project finished and my first lamp redo done!  I don't really have a place for it in my house so it's in the booth just waiting for the right person to take it home!

Roadside Furniture!

This is one of my favorite things...ever.  Finding furniture on the side of the road.  It gives me such an adrenaline rush!  My husband and I spotted this piece and went and picked it up after church.  Picture this....5'2" blond wearing a purple dress and 4 inch wedges digging through a pile of furniture and trash on the side of the road.  Oh yeah, it happened.

This is what I got:

A chair.

Here it is after a little TLC.

I just wiped down the whole thing, primed it, and spray painted it gloss white.  I had some leftover fabric from the bookshelf makeover and vanity bench makeover so I decided to just use that.  I had to remove the seat and rip off the old yucky fabric and then staple the new fabric on.  I always iron the fabric before stapling it though and this time I broke the ironing board (sorry honey).  I figured it's probably ok though because this is the only time I iron anyways...

I also got a rocking ottoman...not sure what I'm going to do with this yet.  (sorry forgot to take a picture!)

Rosettes

I have seen these little fabric flowers all over the blog world but had yet to make them.  I just never had a real reason to until now.  My co-worker used to sell "31" and whenever someone would return product 31 didn't always make them ship it back.  That would be absolutely wonderful except for most of their products are monogrammed.

So my sweet co-worker ripped out all the monogrammed stitching on her lunch break.
This is what the bag looks like from the inside.  Sorry "Taylor".

I forgot to take a before picture of the outside of the bag.  It pretty much look gnarled up due to ripping out the stitches.

So the solution to the problem is to put the rosettes on top of the messy looking part.
I found a great tutorial from another blog.

She makes it so easy!  Here is the finished product
