Etsy

I have not been kidnapped, I promise!  The hubs and I have been super busy getting some things done around the house.  I have also started working FULL time.  Every night when I get home now I just want to crash.  Crashing leaves not much time for projects.  I have discovered a new love though.

Etsy.

I just love to watch the little ticker thing pop up showing what the most recently listed items are.  I didn't know some of these things existed and wow, they are great for new ideas!

Here are some of my favorite things:

Sterling Silver Wire Wrapped Birdnest Pendant, White Glass Pearls, Leaf Charm

Le Jardin- Summer 2011 Vintage Collage Necklace

Napping Flamingo on the Beach 8x10 Print

LOVE flamingos!
GO TO the GYM Felt Applique Pillow 14x18 inch charcoal and fuchsia

How appropriate is this, you go to sit down on the couch and your throw pillow is telling you to do something else.

End Table

My co-worker had an end table that she no longer had use for and so graciously donated it to me.  I forgot to take a before picture but it was the same table, just silver.  I repainted it with some turquoise oops paint I had and that still was not doing it for me.  So, I took some mahogany stain and started to brush it on the legs with a paint brush and then wiped it off with a paper towel.  I learned that it was actually easier to just use the paper towel (while it had some stain on it) instead of the brush on the whole table because then I was able to skip a step!

You're so vain...

This is one of the vanities I picked up from my major Craigslist finds.

Notice the pup tied to the tree in the background...this is the only way I can
get work done when my husband is at work.  She loves it though...I promise!

I lightly sanded the whole thing and then primed it.  I let that dry for about an hour and then started going to town with white paint.  During this process I learned that you get what you pay for.  I bought some cheapy white paint because, hey it's just white paint.  DO NOT DO THAT!  I had to put about 4 coats on this crazy thing!

After I was finished painting I put new hardware on all of the drawers.

Then I took a sander and roughed up some of the edges to give it that "shabby chic" look.  That was kind of stressful!  I didn't want it to look soooo shabby that someone would want to repaint it, but I didn't want it to look super brand new.  Here is the finished product.

The bench was supposed to go with this vanity but it sold before I could get the vanity to the booth!

Rosettes

I have seen these little fabric flowers all over the blog world but had yet to make them.  I just never had a real reason to until now.  My co-worker used to sell "31" and whenever someone would return product 31 didn't always make them ship it back.  That would be absolutely wonderful except for most of their products are monogrammed.

So my sweet co-worker ripped out all the monogrammed stitching on her lunch break.
This is what the bag looks like from the inside.  Sorry "Taylor".

I forgot to take a before picture of the outside of the bag.  It pretty much look gnarled up due to ripping out the stitches.

So the solution to the problem is to put the rosettes on top of the messy looking part.
I found a great tutorial from another blog.

She makes it so easy!  Here is the finished product

Vanity Bench

I've had this vanity bench for quite a few years.  It came from Target (said like Tar-jay) a quite a few years ago.  Over the years I spilled a few things on it and it was looking a little less than perfect.  I had some fabric left over from the bookshelf makeover and used it to recover the vanity bench.

Before

After

This was one of the easiest things I have ever done!  There were 8 screws that I had to remove to get the seat part off of the legs.  Easy.  I left the existing fabric on there because you couldn't see it through the new fabric (if it ain't broke don't fix it, right?).  Then I just cut my fabric to size and used a staple gun to secure it.  The hardest part was making sure the fabric was super tight and snug, and let's face it, that part wasn't even that hard!  Then I just had to rescrew the seat back onto the legs and that's it!

Silver Koala

Who doesn't need a silver koala?

My Gramma is a yard sale diva.  She asked me what to look out for and I told her ceramic animals.  This is what she brought me.

Random.  Not exactly the ceramic animal I had in mind.
When is the last time you even remembered that koalas exist?

I went ahead and spray painted it and now it's in the booth.  I figured I don't have anything to loose!

The Weirdest Thing I've Ever Bought...

The other weekend Mrs. DeVore and I participated in a yard sale where we have our booth.  I bought the craziest thing this world has ever seen.  I have no idea why anybody would have ever made this...maybe because they knew a crazy like me would actually buy it.

It was only $1 so even if it's a total flop oh well!

You may ask, "What is it".  Well, clearly it's a cock fight.  Why someone would make "art" out of it is beyond me.

What drew me to it is the wood around the edges.  My thought it to paint over the whole thing and then glaze it since the nooks and crannies along the edge are gorgeous.  We shall see...

Vacation

Sorry for the lack of posts lately.  We have been on a short vacation.

Our extended family has a week long family reunion every other year.  We have done this 3 times (the hubs and I have been able to participate in 2).  The first year we went to Cherry Grove in SC.  It was a blast.

This past weekend it was that time again but this time they choose Greensboro, GA.  We stayed in a mansion off of Lake Oconee.  It was 12,000 sq ft on 12.8 acres.  It had a pool with a hot tub and waterfall, pool table, sauna room, steam room, theatre room, wine cellar, 7 bedrooms, 9 bathrooms, cedar lined closets, 2 full kitchens, boat house, apartment above the garage, golf carts, and it backed up to the lake.  Here it is:

The garage with the apartment over it.

The loooonggg driveway.

The view from the back

The dining room.  Those doors open up onto the front porch.

This is what you saw when you walked in the main door.

A landing half way down the stairs.

The wine cellar and tasting area.

The lounge area.  The sauna, steam room, theater room, second kitchen, and wine cellar were off of this main room.  The doors also opened up to outside to lead you directly to the pool.

The house itself was amazing.  Some of the decorations were amazing but the decorations looked thrown together.  Some parts of it looked like it was stuck in the late 90s or early 00s (how do you even say that?!).  It made me wish I had a can of spray paint with me!

Hope you have a great one that's full of rest and relaxation!!!

I love this lil pup!

Master Bath During...

Here it is in all of it's gray glory.  We tried to skimp out and do just 1 coat but that didn't work out so well.

I've never had a stand up shower before and I have never liked the way they look so here is my solution to the problem.

Mrs. DeVore and I found this fabric at The Depot over the weekend when we were supposed to be selling our stuff at the yard sale there.  I am going to make 2 curtain panels out of it for the window.  I guess I have to learn how to sew...

We still have a little bit to do in here.
 I would like to:
- hang a chandelier over the tub
- frame in the mirror
- make curtains
- hang curtains
- hang 2 shelves, 1 on each side of the sinks to get stuff off of the counters
- get new hand towels
- get the extra crap outta the tub!
