Nursery Ideas

I am beyond excited about decorating and furnishing the nursery for our little man.  There are so many possibilities.  I know that I don't want a super "babyish" nursery with only pastels and I want the wall color to be neutral enough that it doesn't always have to be a nursery.

I bought a crib set at Marshall's over the weekend and I'm a little pumped about it.  I won't be using the bumper so I have it for sale on Craigslist.  I could not believe that I found almost exactly what I wanted!  I was going to make the crib skirt with this exact pattern but now I don't have to and that makes me very happy because I feel like the "to do" list of things to get done before baby arrives gets longer everyday.
We are still in search of a crib but we know we want something made out of a really dark wood.

Here is what we have bought thus far:

RENS Sheepskin, white
source
A faux sheepskin rug for in front of the crib.

BEKVÄM Spice rack, birch Width: 15 3/4 " Depth: 3 7/8 " Height: 3 1/2 " Width: 40 cm Depth: 10 cm Height: 9 cm
source
2 spice racks that will double as low hanging bookshelves mounted on the wall.  I just need to spray paint these white.

Bedding for the crib

Remember this post from a while back?  The blue elephant will now be residing in the nursery.  We are going to use this as an accent piece to go next to the glider.  It won't really be large enough for a lamp but it might be able to hold a small basket of supplies.

More to come!

Painted Doors

I stumbled across this wonderful blog (A Well Dressed Home).  My most favorite (favoritest?) thing that she did (besides her kitchen, ah, GORGEOUS!) are her painted interior doors.  I ran the idea by my husband and he was not buying it.  He's kind of a stickler for following the rules.  I'm kind of known for breaking bending them.  Once I showed him the pictures from her blog he was just as smitten as I was

So, off to our local True Value I went!  I thought about changing up the color but I loved how hers was gray, brown, and black all at the same time.  If it ain't broke don't fix it, right (unless it's a white door that really wants to be painted).

Here are the before pictures of the plain white doors.  Booorrrinnggg.

Hey Penny!

I didn't prime the doors because they were just painted white in March before we moved in.

Here they are after a lot of taping and hard work.

Check out the new knob on our laundry room door!  There was just a boring white knob on it before but I wanted to snaz it up a bit!  I found it at Hobby Lobby and it was 50% off, score!

(ok, it is not puke yellow in real life.  It's actually almost the same color of the door but the flash made it look odd)

A big thanks to Emily over at A Well Dressed Home for the amazing idea!

Christmas Ornaments!

Christmas is my most favorite time of year!  I love decorating everything!  I've been making ornaments for the tree for years now but this year I'll be selling them in the booth.  Here are some of the ones I've taken up there so far.

Wouldn't you know it that while I was trying to get pictures of the ornaments my camera battery died :(  fail.

I'm trying to get a feel for which ones people like the most.  I have a favorite but since I made them it doesn't count!  Do you have a favorite?

Garage Sale Gramma

Have I ever mentioned that my Gramma is a yard sale diva?  Well, Grampa is too, they went to 108 yard sales in one day!  IN ONE DAY!  Makes me so proud (and a little jealous).  They travel around in their motorhome and find yard sales all over the United States.  How neato is that?

They came to visit the other day and boy did she bring me some loot.  The first of it was this picture/plaque kinda thing.  The original tag was on the back and it was from TJ Maxx.  I can guarantee she didn't pay what the original price tag says!  Gramma don't mess around.

Here it is after a little spray paint.

Getting Organized

Since it's getting darker a lot sooner I've been trying to figure out a way to stay motivated by the time I get home from work.  For some reason I associate darkness outside to being on the couch with the TV on inside.

So I've devised a plan.  It's a simple idea but actually carrying it out is a bit more difficult.  Every Monday I type up a list for each day of that week.  Under each day I list out what needs to get done/events going on.  After I have it typed up and printed I hang it on the fridge.  Whenever we get something done we get to cross it off.  Of course the goal each day is to get everything crossed off.  Last week was the first week trying it out and we did pretty good.  Since my husband and I are both firstborns we found ourselves trying to get more things done than what was on the list.  Whatever works, right?!

Here is our list for this week:
Monday
