The Start of the Pantry Makeover

Lately I have been getting really frustrated with our pantry.  There is stuff everywhere!  The bad part is that it's stuff we need to live!  I have been completely inspired by all the other blogs posting about "pantry makeovers".  I'm going to tackle this thing step by step though.  You would think we are a family of 8 by all the food we have, when in all reality it is just the 2 of us!
I bought these canisters at Ross for about $5 a pop (I know, I know, they were pricey, but I had a gift card):

The ones with the black and silver lids came in a set for $8, a little bit cheaper but they don't hold as much.
I am hoping to make some neato labels for them in the near future.

To help with the extreme makeover I stopped by Goodwill today and found this basket for 99 cents:

I spray painted it with some white paint I already had and Ta Da!

Grilling packets and seasonings all in one special place.  Whew. Now I can sleep tonight!

Bird Cage Redo

I found this bird cage at Ross for about 7 buckaroos a few years ago.  I was looking for one to use for our wedding to put all of the cards in.  I wanted it to be white but the one I bought was a weird green and gold combo (not sure who thought that was a good idea).  I used some white spray paint that I already had and, voila:

A nice card holder for our wedding!

Now the bird cage is in our house and was sitting on our wine tower but it did not "pop" like I wanted it to.  It seemed to blend in with the color on our walls a little too much, sooooo......I bought some 96 cent black spray paint from Wally World and then added some dark gray textured spray paint I already had to make it look a little rustic and...

Sorry for the shadows!  The lighting is not the best in that corner.  Now I'm just keeping my eye out for some cute little birdies to put with it.  They seem to be all the rage these days.  I'll keep you updated on what I find!

Girls Night

Last night we had our official once a month "Girls Night" with the ladies from our Sunday School class.  We each will be hosting a night and kind of pick a theme of what we want to do for the evening.  Jennifer loves to decorate cakes so that was the theme of her night.  She had little cupcakes and Easy Bake Oven size cakes ready for us when we arrived.  She also had all of the icing made and already colored!  She's a sweetheart!  The first thing I thought of when I saw the miniature cakes was, "cheeseburger".  I'm not sure if it was because I was hungry or because we were getting ready to eat Jennifer's famous "cheeseburger soup".  Here was my end result!
This makes me long for the summer time...
Complete with a burger on the inside!

Here goes nothin'

Okay, so I'm eating my own words.  I never thought I'd be a "blogger" and yet here I am, getting ready to blog away.  I figure I would use this as a way to keep my creativity in a somewhat organized fashion.  We'll see how that goes, you be the judge.

So I decided to give painting on canvas a try.  This is the very first time I have ever done this!  For the background I used water colors from a kit I got years ago as a gift.  The brown designs are acrylic paints as are the silver splatters!  Those were the most fun to make.  Just load up the paint brush and fling away!  Make sure you're outside for that part though.

The finished product now resides above our bed.

Can't wait to show you more!
